Equipment Manager

TITLE: Equipment Manager

SALARY: $75,000 - $90,000/year



HOURS: 7:00AM – 4:00PM + occasional overtime.

  • Assume technical and financial responsibility for all Southeastern Ontario District equipment
  • Manage day-to-day operation of Ottawa shop
  • Provide leadership to equipment staff; train and mentor staff to develop skills as necessary
  • Work with inventory control personnel and work closely with supply vendors
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures
  • Ensure a safe work environment for all employees; develop, implement and maintain processes, procedures and programs to improve safety, productivity, efficiency and communication
  • Ensure the preventive maintenance program are scheduled correctly and the systems remain current
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical problems and provide direction on repairs to be completed
  • Provide assistance in scheduling of the repair and preventative maintenance work
  • Oversee new hires and terminations
  • Prepare annual budgets; monitor and take necessary steps to ensure equipment costs remain within budget
  • Analyze equipment costs on a monthly basis and provide periodic cost analysis
  • Liaise with operations staff, working closely to maintain a positive and productive line of communication
  • Conduct annual employee performance evaluations
  • Ensure equipment personnel are working at the highest level of safety and productivity while minimizing overtime whenever possible
  • Ensure fleet appearance is within corporate guidelines at all times
  • Provide recommendations on asset life expectancies, replacement schedules and new asset specifications
  • Review asset utilization and cost to determine most cost effective units for high and low utilization
  • Minimum 5 years' management experience
  • 310T Truck and Coach Technician licence (required)
  • 310S Automotive Service Technician licence (an asset)
  • Strong 310T trade expertise and proficiency
  • Above average ability to diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Above average computer skills – knowledge and experience with Microsoft Outlook and Excel a definite asset
  • Be self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Experience in meeting deadlines with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stressful conditions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
