Legal Assistant (Labour/Employment)


TITLE: Legal Assistant (Labour/Employment)

SALARY: $50,000 - $68,000/year (depending on experience)

LOCATION: Toronto, ON

LENGTH OF ASSIGNMENT: Full time, permanent

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Handling all administrative duties such as file openings and ongoing file maintenance
  • Preparing cheque requests, coordinating meetings, processing incoming and outgoing mail and preparing expense reports
  • Managing dates and updating calendar for lawyers, including meetings, appointments, due dates, discoveries, expert witness and other court-designated hearings
  • Prepare, draft routine correspondence, transcribe correspondence and legal documents from digital dictation and/or precedents
  • Assist in preparation of mediation briefs, appeal records, documents for hearings
  • Proofread documents/correspondence; check for appropriate formatting, spelling, grammar
  • Entering and finalizing time dockets
  • Liaising with Billing Coordinators for the monthly production of accounts
  • Provide backup assistance to various professionals and/or assistants within the team as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Post-secondary Legal Assistant or Law Clerk course
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in the area of Labour and Employment and Benefits law and Ontario Labour Relations Board matters
  • In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, court rules and procedures as well as labour and employment terminology, where applicable
  • Proficiency and working knowledge in MS Office 2010, Windows 7, Worksite DMS, Elite, Webview and ACL
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
